We currently have the maximum number of members we can accommodate. For this reason we are very sorry that we can’t welcome guests or new members to any of our meetings.
All current members are welcome. If you can not attend a meeting for any reason it would be helpful if you could send a message on WhatsApp so we have an idea of how many chairs and tables to put out.

MARK MAKING AND BOOK BINDING
An introduction to mixed media techniques and simple book making and binding
Liz Howlett and Alison Livesley
Overview
Mixed media techniques can be used as part of a stitched project and/or experimenting with the design of that project. It is often useful to start working on paper to develop ideas that can be translated into stitch, orused in a textile project. But also mark making can produce satisfying art work that you will want to keep in a sketchbook either for reference, or to accompany your quilt or textile at exhibition.
In this session we will be mainly working on paper on a folded sketchbook we will make from an A3 sheet. The aim is to introduce a variety of mark making media and tools and a simple book making technique you can use in future. We will also do some work on a piece of fabric to give you an idea of how you can work with both mixed media and machine or hand stitch.
We will also have samples of a variety of mixed media work and hand made books so you can see how you could develop this work if it’s an area that interests you.
Theme
It’s a good idea to choose a theme for your mark making eg water, architecture, woodland, gardens. Or you could choose a shape or form eg curves, circles, squares. You can go completely abstract too…but sometimes it helps to have an idea of where to start!
